Top pitcher Kenny Van den Branden surprises everyone with a Time-Out Marriage Proposal during Game 1 of the Belgian Baseball Series.
In the ninth inning of a hard-fought first game of the Belgian Baseball Series this Saturday 7 October, Borgerhout Squirrels pitcher Kenny van den Branden surprised friend and foe by asking for a personal time-out mid battle. In the flowing rain the crowd expected a pitcher change. But instead Kenny’s girlfriend of 5 years Magalie Ielegems was summoned to the pitching mound. And from Kenny’s trusted position – in front of three hundred attendants, kids, relatives, teammates and fans – he popped the big question. Magalie will you marry me?
A super romantic gesture during a hard fought battle that resulted in a standing ovation from the crowd and opposing team Brasschaat Braves for Kenny and Magalie. The sun shone briefly again and friends and opponents alike showed their appreciation and paid their respects to the couple. Then Game Time again. What a beautiful game Baseball is.
Kenny Van den Branden is a much valued pitcher for years now for Belgium’s National Team “The Red Hawks”. Last year he was awarded best pitcher in the Dutch Hoofdklasse as pitcher for Curacao Neptunes. After returning to the Belgian Gold League this year, Kenny is starting pitcher at Borgerhout Squirrels and for his first play-off game of the Belgian Series he came away as big winner.
